So why not just have a friend or relative videotape your event?

Just as there are a number of reasons to have a Professional videographer,
here are a number of reasons not to ask a friend or relative to do it for you.

  • Experience: Most people do not have a lot of experience filming events. This is totally different from filming the children around the house or in the park. There are many more variables to be considered including audio, microphones, sound systems,  lighting and video framing, just to mention a few.
  • Equipment: Most people will not have access to more than a consumer grade camcorder. While they are perfectly fine for home use, many are not designed to compensate for low light and changing light conditions that are common in most weddings.
  • Trained Operators: How many people really know all the functions on their camera and can operate those un-familiar functions in real time as the wedding unfolds. There is only one chance.
  • Time and Inconvenience: Filming an event like this takes a lot of time and planning. You may not want to ask a friend or family member to spend this much effort for an event that they had much rather enjoy with you.
  • Editing: Editing is a very important part of the video. If you have only one friend with one camera you will have only one view. If you have more than one camera, how will you be able to have only one finished video?  You will have to watch the event multiple times.
  • Finished Product: Will your finished video look polished and professional? Will it be delivered to you in a timely manner? Will it include multiple views that are synched together? Will you be able to have multiple copies?

There is only one chance to get it right so........

Question: What do you tell a friend or relative that wants to video your wedding or special event?

Answer: Thanks, I really appreciate your offer to help, but I have decided to have a professional videographer take care of all those details so that we can enjoy this very special day together.
